How email replies work
Messages reach candidates as email, and their email replies flow back into the conversation automatically.
What it is
Binary's messaging runs over email. When you message a candidate it's delivered as an individual email, and when the candidate replies to that email, their reply flows straight back into the conversation thread in your Inbox - no app login needed on their side.
How it works
- Each outgoing message is a personalized email (use
{first_name}to insert their name). - The reply-to address routes the candidate's response back to the right conversation, so you just see it appear in the thread.
- Delivery is tracked, so failed/bounced sends are flagged.
- When a candidate replies and your team is notified, everyone set to be notified is on the same email, so anyone can reply-all and keep the rest of the team in the thread.
- If a teammate answers by replying to that email, their reply is attributed to them in the conversation, not to whoever the notification happened to be addressed to.
Notes & limits
- Candidates reply by email; they don't need a Binary account.
- Not supported: CC/BCC on candidate messages, scheduling a send for later, and customizing the sending address or email signature.
- A candidate must have an email for any of this to work (see Message candidates).
Reply templates (quick replies)
Save reusable message templates (reply shortcuts) and insert them when messaging candidates - at the workspace level and per form.
Schedule an interview
Book an interview for a candidate - pick interviewers, date/time, and a Google Meet or location, with a calendar invite sent automatically.
